Tech Talk n°12 Dangerous non cosmetic pigments

What are the dangers of using non-cosmetic pigments in nail products?

It is important to realize that non-cosmetic pigments have been developed for use in entirely different industries like the automotive industry and are not suitable for use in cosmetics. These pigments often contain toxic substances, heavy metals and harmful impurities that can cause long-term health effects, including cancer and reproductive toxicity.

You as a nail professional hold a great responsibility in safeguarding your own health and the health of your customer.

Use safe products! These ProNails neon nail colours absolutely are safe to use!

What do know about cosmetic pigments?

Pigments in cosmetics refer to finely ground, insoluble particles that are used to provide colour to various skin, make-up and nail products. These pigments are typically derived from natural sources or synthetically manufactured.

Cosmetic pigments are made to be safe for using on skin or nails. These are used in our professional nail products from ProNails. Non-cosmetic pigments have been designed for other industries and are not suitable for use in cosmetics. These pigments often contain toxic substances, heavy metals and harmful impurities that are not suitable for the use on skin or nails.

Nail stylist? 3 facts you should know about fluo polishes!

  1. Fluo pigments are not like regular pigments that simply reflect UV light. Fluo pigments have the unique ability to absorb invisible UV light and then to re-emit this light into the visible light spectrum giving is the very bright and vibrant colours that we see.
  2. Because fluo pigments continuously absorb and re-emit light they tend to gradually fade after prolonged UV exposure. This gradual process is natural and can be limited by mixing fluo pigments with regular pigments into the same polish formula.
  3. Cosmetic fluo polishes that do not fade, do not exist. Make sure to protect yourself and your clients by using only cosmetic fluo's which are suitable for use on the human body. These are free of any impurities or toxic ingredients, so they are not harmful for your clients’ health.

Always make sure you only used approved products with cosmetic pigments.
