Tech Talk n°18 Is it possible to overcure a product?

It is possible to overcure a gel?

Yes that’s possible!

Overcuring means placing the product under the lamp for too long or many times. You are probably doing this with the best of intentions, but overcuring does more bad to your gel than good.

Think of it like getting a sunburn after too much sun exposure.

In this Tech Talk you discover what the negative effects are of overexposing your gel under a nail lamp.

You may not always realize you are causing too much exposure even when you stick to the correct curing times. Have you ever stopped to think that applying each product on one finger at a time and polymerizing each layer multiple times could have negative effects?

Why is that?

Overpolymerisation’ can lead to several unwanted effects:

  • Some gels may turn grey
  • A gloss gel can turn yellow
  • Some colours can lose their intensity and fade faster during wear
  • Overcuring one layer can also cause adhesion trouble for the next layer

In that case, why not use a product like BCOLOUR that you can apply to 5 fingers at a time and cure together just once?

Will double curing provide long durability?

The answer is no! On the contrary, it can have a negative effect on the gel's durability.
